Not necessarily - the director of our institute will be staying in San Diego
with a personal friend, and I'm sure that if necessary, said friend could
accept a package on our behalf.

That's still preferable, certainly.  :-)

BTW, the main ISMB conference is a different kettle of fish compared to BOSC.
It is _the_ premier annual event in computational biology.  It has an
attached exhibition where many of the big name commercial Unix vendors will
be hosting booths this year.  More info at:
