1) It's similar to distfile name
2) It's less ambiguous, as short names tend to create collisions
(for example, games/secretmaryochronicles and devel/smc)
3) It's more informative, as for me at least, if I look at the list of
package names, the only ones I'm unable to remember purpose of are
those 3-4 letter abbreviations.
