Last year I purchased a dual opteron @ 1.6 GHz, and
couldn't compile php4 with mcrypt properly using the
amd64-port and had also problems with acpi, so I
installed the i386-port (FreeBSD 5.x) instead. 4.10
should the same way as well. Works like a charm, the
cpu performs better than their intel-counterparts.

Good luck

Claus
