What's the difference between:

/etc/rc.conf
network_interfaces="ed0 lo0 tun0"
ifconfig_tun0=""

plus /etc/start_if.tun0

and

/etc/rc.conf
ppp_enable="YES"
ppp_profile="libero-isdn"
