Folks...

we have a machine that normally runs a few mailing lists, as well as a
website or two.

It has recently been shipped across country (GA to WA) to its new home,
and ever since it was brought back online (reconfigured before
shipping..), it has been acting rather..strangely. Been up ~3 or 4 days,
with various reboots trying to fix the problem.

Worked 100% before it was moved. the machine is a Celeron 350 w/64,
running 3.0-RELEASE.

Here is what I .do. know:

ssh/telnet in, and use more, (ie: more /etc/aliases) (seems to only do
this on ~900+ byte files, cat too.), run pine, or exit
from pico, and the output on that tty stops.

Check from a different session, and type w, it shows that that last
command.is. what is being run on that tty...

Now, back to that first session, assuming using more, and type q..go back
to the other session, and check, and vwalah. back to your favorite
shell. Now, run something else. top for example. check, and sure
enough, it is running. But the output on the first session is still
frozen.

It works just fine using FSecure ssh, as well as Win98 telnet, from one
Win98 computer. No trouble.

I can get in fine if I come in from an SCO UNIX 3.2v5.0.0. machine, either
ssh or telnet.

From my personal BSDi machine, as well as two other FreeBSD machines (one
3.0-RELEASE, the other unknown, but recently built), the problem exists.

From Win95 telnet, the problem exists.

Again, it functioned 100% before it was securely packaged and UPSed across
the country. Reinstallation is really not an option, due to distance, and
some serious modification to the list software that we dotn want to do
again...If it comes down to it, I guess I can hang the tapedrive somewhere
and restore from here, if I have to, though.

If anyone has .any. ideas, I'd love to hear them!

thanks.....david
