alt-ctrl-F9, since X by default runs on the first vty that doesn't have a
getty on it.

You're hitting it with your thumbs or the side of your fingers. One of
the major drawbacks of the Dell touchpads is that they're quite
sensitive (this happens to me all the time, it irritates me too).
