I missed the first part of this thread, but if that's dropping to PIO mode 
error on bootup, it is almost always fixable by changing your IDE cables to 
shielded 80 pin ATA100 cable.  I'd have thought it would have made it to 
the FAQ by now as it's quite common   :)  (Don't think it has though.)
