We're so rich, we can't afford to buy our mail clients from Microsoft,
we have to write our own...  8-).

FWIW, "luck" has nothing to do with it.  It's actually the result
of our strong intellectual property laws (as much as they seem to
have gone too far these days), and blind enforcement of the social
contract.  Actually, except in one or two largely Socialist states,
where you can't save yourself from it, India has a poor track
record on uniform enforcement of the social contract.  If you do
not believe me, try to start a business in under a month without
bribing anyone.

I have a Winmodem on my Sony VAIO.  Mostly, I've just been too
busy to port the Rockwell HCF driver.

Maybe he can; maybe I can.  More likely we will suggest a FreeBSD
driver.  What is the chipset and model of the thing?

Linux Winmodem drivers actually tend to work better on FreeBSD;
it's a timing thing.  Though fewer of them have been ported.
