sendmail(8) would have nothing to do with this. It is either an issue
with the client, the POP3 server, or something about the interaction
of the two. If you talk directly to the POP3 server, rather than
through the usual client, does it work correctly? Is the server
leaving any logs? What server and client software are you using?
