On 2 different machine (simmilar archecture) the system will kernel-trap right after attemping to mount the ZFS filesystems. I dont know if it is ZFS related or not as I am not able to get a core. It complains that no dump device has been defined and then locks up...

If your swap space is in zpool, you won't be able to dump.
Does the system boot in single user mode? Without starting /etc/rc.d/zfs
I mean.

And about being able to boot:

fujibayashi@ameagari ~ % uname -a
FreeBSD ameagari.fujibayashi.jp 8.0-CURRENT FreeBSD 8.0-CURRENT #8
r195182M: Tue Jun 30 16:02:54 JST 2009

fujibayashi@ameagari ~ % uptime
18:26 up 1 day, 6:10, 3 users, load averages: 0,18 0,05 0,02

fujibayashi@ameagari ~ % zpool list
NAME SIZE USED AVAIL CAP HEALTH ALTROOT
data 928G 14,3G 914G 1% ONLINE -
storage 1,36T 432G 960G 31% ONLINE -
