BTW, would it be good for  some situations to have the read-only kernel?
I'd imagine,  the writing  functionality takes plenty  of room,  so some
embedded  situations  can  benefit  greatly. You  make  the  filesystems
outside of  the device and  place the --  presumably much smaller  -- RO
kernel on it...
