1. Already tried DOS as explained in another part of the thread
2. Only other machine I have is nearly identical hardware (slight
difference in the model number of the motherboard -- the one I am writing
from is rev. 1 of the board and other one is rev 2)

Again as stated elsewhere in the thread the entire point of the exercise
(except as a learning experience) is to avoid going to the store, a 5 hr
trip start to finish, to replace a $30 SSD (there is nothing I need on the
bricked up one).
