Have you thought in using 6.1/amd64 instead of 6.1/i386 + PAE ? Your Xeon processor is supported under the amd64 port, using EM64T for addressing more than 4GB. I had some stability troubles in the past running mysql server with PAE enabled, for a 6GB RAM server.
