*sigh*  I guess you never figured maybe one of the vendors patches would
also fix it considering he puts out patches like crazy (over 300 for the
last version of vim).

One of the vender patches offically fixes the Perl 5.8.1 problem.  I take
it this is your way of giving me permission to back out your commit and
you won't be emailing Core when I do.
