Ok, the point was "Does FreeBSD support more than one processor?"
The answer was "Yes."

The next questions were "How can I do the upgrade? Why must I do this?"
Answer to part I: "You have to recompile your kernel with the correct options.
Take a look in /usr/src/sys/i386/conf/LINT for the correct parameters." (I
assume an i386 user because of his non-asian mail-address and he did not ask
for alpha.)

Now the answer to part II:
"The multiprocessor kernel would have problems on _some_ combinations of
hardware when you only have _one_ processor."
Now re-think your statement. Do you really assume that Windows NT/2000/XP boot
with a _multiprocessor_ kernel on _every possible_ hardware combination for
_uniprocessor_ systems? Ok, got the point?

Next question to you, Anthony, have you ever done an upgrade from an
uniprocessor to a multiprocessor kernel with Windows NT? uni2mp.exe (or
similar) come to my mind. Even with reading the articles in the Knowledge Base
it was _not_ possible for me. A friend of mine told me: "Every time I had done
this I installed the system new and get the data back from tape". That was the
way which worked for me.
With FreeBSD all you have to do is recompile the kernel. Well documented and
tested.

I don't want to start any fight. I wanted only to show that statements like
"howdy, why can i do this but you can't do this" will result in nothing than
disturbing mails.

Please keep your personal opions to yourself - and ask _technical_ questions to
_this_ list and respond with _technical_ answers.
For all other mail traffic about which OS is more yellow and darker than the
other there is the freebsd-chat mailinglist.

Thanks

Marc

PS: We can talk about uni-/multiprocessor-problems in Windows NT and FreeBSD
private every time - if you want to add something.
