The UPDATING entry is confusing.

ati used to autoload one of the radeon, r128, or mach64 drivers.  It 
doesn't any more.  At this point, ati looks to just be a synonym for 
radeon.  At least in the xorg.conf on my 2373 T42, either Driver "ati" 
or Driver "radeon" works.
