 The reason for the garbage characters is unknown though is still being  
 looked into.  I see no reason to mark the port as broken for SSL just  
 to push it up to 2.10, short of a compelling functional  
 incompatibility or security reason.  As you could imagine, a large  
 number of users use it's SSL features and I need to look after them  
 too ;-)
