Read /usr/src/UPDATING completely. A reciepe is given there. Some steps
are missing, thus:

- CVSup
- make buildworld
- make isntallworld
- make buildkernel GENERIC
=> single user
- make installkernel GENERIC
- chflags noschg kernel.GENERIC
- copy old /kernel.GENERIC to /kernel.GENERIC.old
- copy new GENERIC to /kernel.GENERIC
- chflags schg kernel.GENERIC
- mergemaster
=> reboot

Pay attention to which kernel is installed where!
