Make sure that login has the following permission and ownership.

-r-sr-xr-x  1 root  bin  20480 Feb  6  1997 /usr/bin/login*

You may have to boot single-user mode to fix this.  Also cross check the
filesize and date; soebody may have tried to trojan-horse you by replacing
your /usr/bin/login and is waiting for you to fix the perms on it so it
can start doing it's business.

My date is wrong, so don't use that as a standard.  I copied the
fielsystem and it updated the timestamp.
