It seems that a number of the -committers don't subscribe to -hackers.
A few months back, I made some suggestions to -hackers, got positive
replies, and committed the changes.  Then some -committers came down
on me like a ton of bricks, asking for it to be removed.  During the
ensuing discussion we decided that -hackers had been the wrong forum
for discussing the problem.
