Yep, please disregard all of the above, I realise that this has nothing
to do 
with the errors I am getting and that 'killall ppp' could not possibly
have
anything to do with it. 

About the errors: The connection only died once after killing ppp, and I
am 
connected (and have been for a few hours) at this very moment without
having 
rebooted or restarted any daemons since the original post. The
connection seems 
to be working fine and I'm getting good data rates, but these error
messages still
bother me, so any help would be appreciated.
