First of all, you would be wise to *not* edit /etc/defaults/* -- leave
them as is and make your local copies in /etc -- that way you get updates
as they occur (if you make world and use mergemaster etc).

> syslogd_enable="yes"
> syslogd_flags="-a 192.168.1.0/24:*

This is what I have and it works just fine.

The :* is probably unnecessary, however.
