I built a 'low-cost SMP playground machine' a few days ago.
(dual Celeron 466, Gigabyte dual slot-1 board)
Under a certain load (make -j16 for example) the machine crashed 
reliable anytime. 
Eventually I swapped the 128MB DIMM, ... and what should
I say: ... rock-stable ..
