Huh? The same image works just fine on a 3.5" floppy. None of this
stuffing around is necessary.

Don't, it's a waste of time.

It works like this :

dd if=boot.flp of=/dev/fd0a

Regardless of _what_ your floppy is.  Leave your CMOS config alone,
and boot away.
