Do you mean POSIX _locale_definition_ (where -1 can indicate CHAR_MAX since CHAR_MAX is machine-dependent and nobody knows it) or you mean POSIX localeconv() fields? (if later, there is SUSv2 vs. POSIX strong conflict and we need to think about it more). BTW, the main problem remains that localeconv() currently just return locale string for *grouping, without parsing it to byte-fields. -- Andrey A.
