>Description:
Eventual panic, _normally_ while running quakeforge(qw-client-glx) built from ports, but not always while running quake. I'm guessing it involves the ATI drivers. I get the feeling that using GL accelerates it(not tested yet, but I will). It is rather strange, I have had a nice 11 days uptime recently, but I was consistently shutting down Xorg before going to bed.

I am going to stop X from loading GL for a while and see if I continue to get the panics, hopefully isolating the problem a bit. (running quake in sw mode when wanting a game)

Here are some of the panic messages that I have been getting:

> Fatal trap 12: page fault while in kernel mode
> fault virtual address = 0x14
> fault code = supervisor read, page not present
> instruction pointer = 0x8:0xc02b3943
> stack pointer = 0x10:0xdf9e3bb4
> frame pointer = 0x10:0xdf9e3be4
> code segment = base 0x0, limit 0xfffff, type 0x1b
> = DPL 0, pres 1, def32 1, gran 1
> processor eflags = interrupt enabled, resume, IOPL = 3
> current process = 1748 (Xorg)
> interrupt mask = tty
> trap number = 12
> panic: page fault

> Fatal trap 12: page fault while in kernel mode
> fault virtual address = 0x14
> fault code = supervisor read, page not present
> instruction pointer = 0x8:0xc02b362a
> stack pointer = 0x10:0xdfb89d30
> frame pointer = 0x10:0xdfb89d60
> code segment = base 0x0, limit 0xfffff, type 0x1b
> = DPL 0, pres 1, def32 1, gran 1
> processor eflags = interrupt enabled, resume, IOPL = 0
> current process = 61123 (xterm)
> interrupt mask = tty
> trap number = 12
> panic: page fault

I haven't gotten these recently:

> error: [drm:radeon_cp_idle] *ERROR* radeon_cp_idle called without lock held
> error: [drm:radeon_cp_reset] *ERROR* radeon_cp_reset called without lock held
> error: [drm:radeon_cp_start] *ERROR* radeon_cp_start called without lock held
> error: [drm:radeon_cp_idle] *ERROR* radeon_cp_idle called without lock held
> error: [drm:radeon_cp_reset] *ERROR* radeon_cp_reset called without lock held
> error: [drm:radeon_cp_start] *ERROR* radeon_cp_start called without lock held
> error: [drm:radeon_cp_idle] *ERROR* radeon_cp_idle called without lock held
.......
Continues the same message for a while and then a reboot occurred without error. I don't remember if I hit reset or ctrl-alt-del or what:
> error: [drm:radeon_cp_reset] *ERROR* radeon_cp_reset called without lock held
> error: [drm:radeon_cp_start] *ERROR* radeon_cp_start called without lock held
> error: [drm:radeon_cp_idle] *ERROR* radeon_cp_idle called without lock held

This one seems out of the pattern that I've been experiencing, but is included for being complete:
> panic: clist reservation botch
>
> syncing disks... 5
> done
> panic: clist reservation botch
> Uptime: 7d6h42m58s
>
> dumping to dev #ad/0x20001, offset 270864
> dump ata0: resetting devices .. ata0-slave: ATA identify retries exceeded
> done
> 127 [CTRL-C to abort]

Yes, I was experiencing this while running XFree86:

> Fatal trap 12: page fault while in kernel mode
> fault virtual address = 0x14
> fault code = supervisor read, page not present
> instruction pointer = 0x8:0xc02a8ef7
> stack pointer = 0x10:0xccdbfbb4
> frame pointer = 0x10:0xccdbfbe4
> code segment = base 0x0, limit 0xfffff, type 0x1b
> = DPL 0, pres 1, def32 1, gran 1
> processor eflags = interrupt enabled, resume, IOPL = 3
> current process = 402 (XFree86)
> interrupt mask = tty
> trap number = 12
> panic: page fault

> Fatal trap 12: page fault while in kernel mode
> fault virtual address = 0x0
> fault code = supervisor read, page not present
> instruction pointer = 0x8:0xc02a8ab7
> stack pointer = 0x10:0xccf85bb4
> frame pointer = 0x10:0xccf85be4
> code segment = base 0x0, limit 0xfffff, type 0x1b
> = DPL 0, pres 1, def32 1, gran 1
> processor eflags = interrupt enabled, resume, IOPL = 3
> current process = 346 (XFree86)
> interrupt mask = tty

[Seems incomplete, but it was in my dmesg logs]
> stack pointer = 0x10:0xccefabb4
> frame pointer = 0x10:0xccefabe4
> current process = 392 (XFree86)

> frame pointer = 0x10:0xccf74be4
> code segment = base 0x0, limit 0xfffff, type 0x1b
> = DPL 0, pres 1, def32 1, gran 1
> processor eflags = interrupt enabled, resume, IOPL = 3
> current process = 334 (XFree86)
> interrupt mask = tty

I'm quite sorry that I don't have a traceback for you, but my swap isn't large enough to store the core and I don't have debugging symbols turned on.

Nonetheless, I figured I should submit something noting the trouble I've been experiencing.
>How-To-Repeat:
