FreeBSD 4.11-STABLE
Gnome 2.10

How do I fix this?

Desktop / Administration /

    Networking
    Shared folders
    Time and Date
    Users and Groups

Each of these menu picks opens a window, but the widgets are all disabled
and the mouse pointer remains a watch. The windows will close without a
fuss. My guess is that it has something to do with becoming root; I logon
and work as a plain vanilla user.
