I am the maintainer of security/newpg and also submitted the parts of
security/gpgme that allow gpgsm support to be built. I have not been able to
reproduce what you are reporting on a FreeBSD 5.1-RELEASE or a FreeBSD
 4.8-STABLE system.

A SIGBUS on that piece of code strongly suggests that the fault lies in the
compiler. However, I tried recompiling newpg and gpgme several times, I even
tried to recompile a few of the dependencies of newpg (namely libgcrypt,
libksba and pth), I even tried installing packages from the package-cluster
for libksba, libgcrypt, pth and newpg and then recompiling gpgme - all works
 fine.

I don't have any suggestions as to debugging this further, however you might
want to upgrade to 5.1-RELEASE and install the newpg package and see if that
 works for you.
