I also (with a bit of digging) went in and looked at the actual startx script itself. Paging down about a page, I saw 2 arguments clientargs="" and serverargs="". I inserted +xinerama into the serverargs line and viola! I got it to function too. Your way is probably better, however, and I think I'm going to change the startx script back to its original state and call it with the -- arguments. Thanks tons!
