Subject: gated and ppp?

I have FreeBSD 2.0.5 and am using the ppp (iijp) provided with FreeBSD.
I am having the following problem using gated with the ppp(x) interfaces.
gated will not do output RIP packets on these interfaces. gated will output
any RIP flash updates, but will not put out the periodic updates. RIP functions
fine on an ethernet and a frame relay interface, but not on the ppp(x) interfaces.
both tcpdump and gated packet trace confirm that gated is not providing the standard
RIP updates. Also in the gated trace file I can see that gated has a problem finding
the ppp(x) interface because of a netmask mismatch. If I ifconfig the netmask to
0xffffffff then gated finds the interface o.k. but is unable to install a kernel
route for that interface.

Has anyone seen this? Does anyone have an clues on how to fix this?

I am not currently on this list so please respond to me directly.

Thanks
