What version of FreeBSD is this? If it's 8.x, you have to scan with the wla=
n0 device.
I've seen lots of weird and nasty things happen when trying to manipulate t=
he actual
ndis0 device under 8.

ifconfig wlan0 create wlandev ndis0
ifconfig wlan0 up scan
