If the entries

AutomaticLoginEnable=true
AutomaticLogin=dom

are put under the [daemon] heading instead of [security]
in /usr/local/etc/gdm/custom.conf, GDM logins automatically again.
I guess GDM changed its way as of GNOME 2.20. I have filed a relevant
bug report.
