It doesn't work on my system.

blacklamb# echo -e "test event\n"
-e test event\n
blacklamb#

I looked at the man page and there is only an "-n" option:

     The following option is available:

     -n    Do not print the trailing newline character.  This may also be
           achieved by appending `\c' to the end of the string, as is done
by
           iBCS2 compatible systems.

What's the "-e" supposed to do?
