I don't see anything serious, and definitely nothing that would explain why you can't log in any more. It's difficult to diagnose this one. Do you have any messages in /var/log/messages? Any in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xdm/xdm-errors? Are you using a different keyboard mapping than US? What happens if you remove the password from the user and try again? Greg
