mutt-devel 1.3.99-2 appears to handle non-ascii chars in a wrong way.
After upgrading the port to the newest version, non-ascii characters are shown as question marks.

The port was compiled with no extra options, except WITH_MUTT_NCURSES=yes

Install newest mutt-devel port. View message with this sort of encoding:

Content-Type: text/plain; charset="ISO-8859-1"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
