            Bug ID: 246029
           Summary: sysutils/screen: the screen.xterm-256color terminal
type is not known to FreeBSD
           Product: Ports & Packages
           Version: Latest
          Hardware: Any
                OS: Any
            Status: New
          Severity: Affects Some People
          Priority: ---
         Component: Individual Port(s)
          Assignee: cy@FreeBSD.org
          Reporter: vas@sibptus.ru
             Flags: maintainer-feedback?(cy@FreeBSD.org)
          Assignee: cy@FreeBSD.org

The recent versions of screen use the "screen.xterm-256color" terminal type=
 by
default inside screen's windows. This terminal type is not known to FreeBSD=
 (as
recent as 12.1) which causes messages like this:

csh: using dumb terminal settings.

inside screen's windows, and failure of screen-oriented software (text edit=
ors
etc) to work properly.

Workaround: add something like "screen.xterm-256color:tc=3Dscreen-256color"=
 to
/usr/share/misc/termcap and recompile it with cap_mkdb.

I really don't know if this should be considered a bug in sysutils/screen o=
r a
deficiency in FreeBSD's termcap in the base system.
