How do you start KDE? I use GNOME with dbus and I have to start 
gnome-session via dbus.
My .xinitrc looks like this:
exec dbus-launch --exit-with-session gnome-session

I also have dbus_enable=YES, polkitd_enable=YES and hald_enable=YES in 
rc.conf.
