I installed/bootstrapped NetBSD pkgsrc on the linux box. This comes with
bmake(which I think standas for bsdmake).=20

But fails else where.

     I don't know of any port of BSD make(1) to Linux, or if=20
     that would be sufficient to cross-build FreeBSD.  I'm=20
     trying to build a snapshot of FreeBSD make(1) which builds=20
     with autoconf, for other stuff, but it may take a while=20
     before I have a fully autoconf-ified version and that may=20
     still not be adequate.

     You can always try booting a FreeBSD snapshot inside=20
     vmware or qemu, and build FreeBSD from FreeBSD, but that=20
     may be a bit slow...
