I have a T20 with 3.00 f/w which works just peacy in -current.

I know you said things worked fine under 3.4 and now don't work when you
upgraded to 4.2- but I have to say that this seems very unlikely somehow. It
seems like your tape drive has died.  Please retry 3.4 and see what's up with
that and let me know.
