If you have X11 in place, everything is probably already there, you just need 
to link to the right libraries.

I compile my OpenGL stuff thusly:
gcc -I/usr/X11R6/include -L/usr/X11R6/lib -lglut -lGL -lpthread -lm \
-o glprogram glprogram.c

Should work for you too.
