I think we dropped the ball with the number of EISA slots on AS1000.

>From the function name it sounds like MBR probing.
Does this disk have an i386 or Linux history?
No reason to panic, but this would explain why it happens on this
specific machine.
AFAIK MBR probing is GEOM, so I guess you've mailed the right person :)
