The last couple of days several threads have been going around the lists about Crashing FreeBSD, IDE vs. SCSI, and general performance of servers using FreeBSD, so the obvious aggragate question is what hardware is adaquate for various tasks, such as: DNS lookup News server Web server that gets 5,000 hits 50,000? 200,000? 1 million? 2 million or more? FTP server for 10 users? 50? 200? 500? 1000? 2000? 5000 or more? E-mail server for 10s or 100s of accounts? 1000s? tens of thousands? millions? X-Server for 2, 5, 15 or ?? users Terminal server for 5, 10, 50, 100, ?? users Don't tax your mind unless you want to.
