I'm running qmail off inetd as a mail relay with no problems. Now that our inetd uses tcpwrappers it offers identical functionality. All you need to do is put a line like : tcp-env: 127.0.0.1, 192.168.: setenv = RELAYCLIENT where 127.0.0.1 and 192.168. are the IPs of machines (or networks) that you want to be able to relay through you, into /etc/hosts.allow.
