Hmm, I've run into problems like that before, but I don't know exactly what causes them. Usually I install a different boot manager and the whole thing just works. Some boot managers you might want to try (all of them have DOS floppy installs IIRC): os-bs (and the os-bs beta) on most FreeBSD install CD-ROMs in the tools directory and on the FTP site. xosl at http://www.xosl.org/ which has a very fancy graphical bootloader that comes with it's own partition manager. extipl http://www.tsden.org/takamiti/extipl/ (Japanese) or http://www.tsden.org/ryutaroh/extipl/extipl.html (english) A fairly bare bones boot manager that even comes as a port in FreeBSD. I use this one myself, mostly because it's small and doesn't require reconfiguration everytime you move disks around. There are several other commercial boot managers, but they're all overkill for what you need on this laptop. Included in this list are System Commander and Powerquest's boot manager (I can't remember it's name right now...probably boot magic though). -- \ |_ _|__ __|_ \ __| Jason Andresen jandrese@mitre.org |\/ | | | / _| Network and Distributed Systems Engineer _| _|___| _| _|_\___| Office: 703-883-7755 To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
