Well you could do what i do

delete the cancel folder every hour from cron

mv (path to articles)/cancel cancel.$$
rm -r (path to articles)/cancel.$$

that has given me about a 10 fold increase in speed and i can now keep up
with my feeds

its probably not the best way but it does work
