Here is my /boot/loader.conf from my ThinkPad.
hw.ata.atapi_dma="1"
hw.pci.allow_unsupported_io_range="1"
hw.cbb.start_memory="0x20000000"

The first line is a good idea, but is not part of your problem. The last
line is most likely the solution.
