At this point, the longer you wait to switch to 3.*, the more and more
you'll find yourself losing that game of Russian roulette.  Official
support for the 2.2 ports tree is gone - we TRY to make things compile on
2.2.* but I don't even have a machine anymore at 2.2.* and there are ports
that are known not to work on 2.2 (gtk and glib are notorious,
particularly due to the libtool port).

Well, I don't know that there's an "official" notice - you should ask
Jordan.  Option 2 is to upgrade a single machine and see how it goes - if
it stays stable under some tests/time period, you can slowly start to
upgrade all of them.
