Just a small correction in terminology

KDE/GNOME = Desktop Managers

Window Managers are another level.

However, to switch from KDE to GNOME, in your home directory, edit the
file .xinitrc

For KDE, you likely have a line that reads:

startkde

Just comment that out, and add:
gnome-session

Then restart Xwindows.
