I am not entirely sure were the accented characters around "FreeBSD" and in
fron of "perl5.8.8" come from here...

Anyway.  What's the output of

ldd /usr/local/lib/perl5/5.8.8/mach/CORE/libperl.so
ldd /usr/local/bin/perl
uname -a
pkg_info

What's the content of /etc/make.conf, if any?
