Are you using any of the pccardd stuff, or the dedicated drivers.  If
the latter it may be due to them.  I'm running -current on my NEC with
apm enabled and it reboots fine.

Also, if you disable the apm driver does it reboot?  Is APM the cause of
the trouble, or is it un-related?
